Chalk lines mark all sides of the field. Cross a boundary, and the soccer ball is judged to be out of bounds. The last player to touch the ball, as noted by the sideline judge, sees possession of the ball awarded to the opposing team for what is called a throw in.
Whether kicked in, legally ricocheted off another part of the body, or knocked in by the head, no one receives a goal until he or she pushes the soccer ball beyond the line that marks the entrance to the net. Exciting times for many onlookers arise when a penalty kick is called and a player is matched one-on-one with the opposing team’s goalie directly in front of a goal.
